I ❤ Carrum Downs

I ❤ Carrum Downs

Carrum Downs is an under-rated suburb of Frankston City just 36km from Melbourne CBD and accessible via Eastlink access.

It was a farming area up until the 1980’s when the first shopping centre opened (1984) to service the growing number of houses popping up.

The impressive Shri Shiva Vishnu Hindu Temple is located in Carrum Downs and many Hindus residing in Melbourne worship here. The temple well known known for the annual fun and colourful Hindu festivals of Holi and Diwali. Not surprisingly delicious Indian and Sri Lankan food can be found nearby with the highly rated Sabari Saravanaa Bavan down the road from Shri Shiva Vishnu and open everyday til 9pm. A significant 20.5% of Carrum Downs locals speak a language other than English at home with the most common being Mandarin, Greek, Hindi, Punjabi and Tamil.

SHOPPING

Carrum Downs is home to one of the biggest Savers Op Shops you may ever walk into and it’s a short drive from a giant Vinnies Op Shop - both around the corner from Carrum Downs Regional Shopping Centre. Here you can find excellent Ban Mhi at the bakery, Local success Daniels Donuts (originally from Springvale) alongside the supermarkets and pharmacy, butchers and banks.

Bohteak, a beautifully filled showroom, with a style focused on coastal luxe and bohemian has just moved to the area too!

Not every suburb can lay claim to one of Australia’s most highly awarded craft breweries but Carrum Downs can. Since 2017, Dainton’s has been the one to beat at the Independent Beer Awards. Check their website to see their long list! Most of all though a visit to Dainton’s is fun and friendly with lot’s of food options and non alcoholic drinks and regular trivia and games nights.

No self-respecting suburb of greater Melbourne could exist without a few good coffee spots and Carrum Downs is home to Frankie’s Coffee and Eats. A light and bright plant filled space with pretty bench seats and a rotating menu of breakfast, brunch and lunch favourites. Messin’ with Jim Coffee & Chai Van can often be found at Sandfield Reserve in Carrum Downs on weekends creating a lovely sense of community in this shared space popular with dog walkers, families and skate boarders.

Local kids from all over Frankston City make use of the modern basketball courts at Carrum Downs Secondary College and families are spoilt for choice when it comes to Playgrounds with the newly upgraded playground at Carrum Downs Recreational Reserve a crowd fave.

Of course, you can't go past the 30 year old icon skating rink sitting right in the heart of Carrum downs, Sk8house. Not only do they have skating sessions and parties people travel kms for, their themed events calendar is one to watch too!
