Gluten Free in Frankston City
Coeliac Awareness Week is 13-20 March 2025, so we thought this was a great time to create a list of local restaurants, cafes and manufacturers who are doing their part to create a safe and accommodating environment for our local and visiting Coeliac community.
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition that affects thousands of Australians. When people with Coeliac disease consumer food containing gluten (a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and oats), an autoimmune response is triggered causing damage to the small intestine and inflammation of the body. If left untreated, Coeliac can cause the malabsorption of nutrients and increase the risk of other serious conditions, including osteoporosis, liver disease, infertility, and certain cancers.
For individuals with coeliac disease, finding safe places to eat can be a daunting task, especially when cross-contamination is a constant concern. The simple act of dining out becomes a delicate process of ensuring every meal is completely free from gluten – and for many, this means navigating a maze of restaurant menus, asking countless questions, and hoping for the best.
So in the spirit of raising awareness, we’ve done the legwork for you and found some incredible dining spots that not only offer delicious gluten free options, but are also conscious of the need to prevent cross-contamination, so you or your coeliac friend or family member, can confidently go out for a bite to eat – and not be left bloated, nauseous or worse for the days that follow.
