Description

Artist: Adnate, Melbourne and Aboriginal artist, Michelle Kerrin

This artwork completed in March 2022 by Aboriginal artist Michelle Kerrin and well-known mural artist Matt Adnate titled ‘Generational Knowledge’ shows the importance of the Aboriginal matriarchal society sharing knowledge with the younger generations. Aboriginal culture remains strong from our continued connections of our peoples and land.

In the artwork we see Wamba Wamba / Bunurong Elder Aunty Elaine Taylor and her granddaughter Justine Taylor, 7 years old. This artwork shows the sharing of knowledge through our generations.

Adnate is an artist that realises his portraits in spray paint. He has moved past his roots in Street Art, utilising the medium to carry his realist style into the fine art realm.

Heavily influenced by the chiaroscuro of renaissance painters like Caravaggio, Adnate embraces portraiture like the masters of the XXI Century.

Adnate has worked closely with indigenous people of their native land, especially with Indigenous Australians. He paints large scale murals around Australia and the world, creating a statement of reclaiming the land that was always theirs. He endeavours to capture the stories and emotions of each subject he paints, encouraging the audience to feel through their own experience.
